The fifteenth edition of the Asia Cup began on August 30 with massive excitement and anticipation. Six teams participated in the series to clinch the title. Along with India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan, Nepal made its debut and joined the marquee event. India entered the series as a favorite and lived up to the expectations. The Men in Blue joined the event with immense confidence from their brilliant performance in the West Indies. Rohit Sharma-led side remained unbeaten in the campaign and proved its dominance. India began its quest with a series opener against arch-rivals Pakistan in a blockbuster clash, but the match got suspended due to rain. An easy win against Nepal qualified the team to jump to the Super 4. India again locked horns with Pakistan and revived its rivalry in its first game of the Super 4 stage. The match continued on reserve day as rain interrupted after India's innings. The Indian top order shined at the right time to defeat Pakistan by a humongous margin of 228. While openers Rohit and Shubman scored their fifties, Virat and KL Rahul made centuries. India posted a mammoth total of 356, its joint-highest total in the ODIs. 

India vs Sri Lanka in the Super 4 was another exhilarating affair. India held its nerves in a low-scoring match and troubled Sri Lanka. Despite losing early wickets, the middle order played responsible innings to ensure the team scored a respectable total. With this win, team India became the first team to qualify for the Asia Cup 2023 finals.

The defending champion Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh and Pakistan to join India in the finals. In the must-win game against Pakistan, Sri Lanka snatched a stunning victory on the last ball. Although the match was in Lanka's favor, Shaheen Afridi took two wickets in the penultimate over and stopped the runs. When the game was oscillating towards Pakistan, Charith Asalanka played a gutsy shot and ensured his team entered the final.  

India has won seven Asia Cups and emerged as the most successful team in the tournament, followed by Sri Lanka with six. If India wins this fifteenth edition of the Asia Cup, it will ensure its top spot. A victory in the final will help Sri Lanka to equal India's tally. Also, the winning captain will join MS Dhoni and Azharuddin to win the title twice.
